A weekend focused on rest, and you don't have to be ready for it

Hello dear one,

I'll be honest with you: normally I'd have been talking about this for weeks. This time, life has been full with clients, the turning of the season, a lot vying for my attention, and I'm only now telling you about something happening next weekend.

Which, it turns out, is rather the point.

The Radical Rest Retreat is next weekend, the fall equinox, September 18 to 20. Online, from wherever you are. And here is what I most want you to hear: you don't have to be perfectly ready to come.

I have a lot going on in my life right now and it is tempting to tell you that I don't have time to rest. But the more I thought about it, the more I am clear that this is exactly the time that I need to focus on the ways I can rest- especially when the circumstances are less than ideal. I cannot clear the whole weekend to rest, but that doesn't mean that I won't do anything.

I think of an analogy that someone shared with me once. If you can't brush your teeth for the whole two minutes you're "supposed" to, do you just toss the toothbrush aside? No. You brush for 30 seconds or 1 minute and you call it good enough.

That's how I'm approaching the weekend. Good enough resting. We need to stop striving for perfection to show up in a different way in the lives we actually have.

So you don't have to clear the whole weekend. You don't have to arrange your life so it's finally calm enough to deserve rest or even benefit from joining. You can drop in for one conversation, or both. You can come to a single call and do nothing else. You can participate in whatever way works for you in your actual life. Because the thing that really shifts your relationship with rest isn't a perfectly protected weekend. It's slowing down, even once, even briefly, long enough to notice something you couldn't see while you were in constant motion.

And the timing is important. This is the equinox, the still point of the year, when light and dark are held in balance before the year turns toward its quieter season here in the northern hemisphere. We're moving into the last quarter of 2026. It's a natural moment to pause and ask: how am I, really? What patterns have I been running? What do I need in this next season, both of the year and of my life? Those questions only get answered when we slow down long enough to even ask them.

So this is your invitation, offered a little late and entirely from my heart. Come as you are, for as much or as little as you can. Slowing down even a couple of times over the weekend will show you something. And the sharing on the live calls can help you see something new about yourself, too. Just listening may open something new.

It's offered on a sliding scale, so you can choose what fits your circumstances. And if you feel you need to be there and the cost isn't possible right now, please write to me. I mean that. The number has never been the point.

I hope to see you there!

Be curious. Be kind. Start with yourself.

Warmly,

Rebecca

Hello dear one, A couple of weeks ago, we gathered for our first community circle, and the theme that wanted to come through was reciprocity. I give, you receive. You give, I receive. We started with an example that most of us recognize: with the pay-it-forward coffee. Maybe you remember that trend of buying a Starbucks for the stranger behind you in line? It's a lovely impulse. I know it made me feel like there was more kindess in the world! But I realized that person being gifted a coffee...

A gentle note before you read this: This letter mentions infant loss. If that is a tender subject, please take care of yourself and read when you're ready or not at all. Hello dear one, Nineteen years ago, I started The Consciously Parenting Project on my son Jacob's birthday. Jacob came into the world 24 years ago on Sept 21, 2002 at 10am and he left at noon. He had a neural tube defect that was incompatible with life. He was born at home right after the heat of summer broke as tornadoes...

Hello dear one, Just a quick note before the weekend: the Fall Equinox Radical Rest Retreat begins tomorrow, this Friday, September 18, at 12pm EDT, and there's still room if you'd like to join us. You don't have to be ready. You don't have to clear the whole weekend. You can drop in for one call, rest for an hour, or take part in whatever way fits your actual life. The whole point is that slowing down even a little, even imperfectly, can show you something you couldn't see while you were...
